Sanitation Advocacy

Sustainable environmental change requires more than just reactive measures; it demands proactive, systemic transformation. At the Asanteman Anti-Pollution Coalition (AAPC), our Sanitation Advocacy initiatives focus on addressing the root causes of pollution across Konongo and the wider Asanteman region. We firmly believe that citizens can only be expected to dispose of waste responsibly when the right infrastructure and policies are in place. Therefore, we serve as the resolute voice of the community, pushing for long-term investments in public health and environmental sustainability.

A major focus of our advocacy work involves relentless lobbying for critical sanitation infrastructure. We actively engage the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly and other key stakeholders to demand the strategic placement of communal waste bins in high-traffic areas, such as central markets and lorry parks. Beyond basic disposal, we advocate for the establishment of modern recycling points to reduce plastic pollution. Furthermore, we champion the rights and dignity of informal waste pickers, lobbying for alternative livelihoods and safer working conditions to integrate them into a formal, sustainable circular economy.

Our advocacy extends beyond boardrooms and assembly meetings; it is deeply rooted in community empowerment. We educate market leaders, transport unions, and youth groups on their environmental rights, equipping them to demand better sanitation services from local authorities. This united front ensures that our leaders are held accountable for maintaining clean, flood-free cities. By driving these infrastructural and policy changes, our advocacy directly advances the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly concerning clean water and sanitation (SDG 6) and the development of sustainable cities (SDG 11).
